Full Description

Scope

This standard establishes terminologies and a framework for Percutaneous and Non-fluoroscopic Technology (PAN technology) which is conducted by ultrasound in a percutaneous cardiovascular interventional therapy.

Purpose

The purpose of this standard is to provide unified terminology and a framework for PAN technology. PAN technology avoids the issue seen with interventional therapies conducted by fluoroscopy and thoracotomy under cardiopulmonary bypass, which can cause iatrogenic injury, including radiation damages or large trauma. PAN technology is conducted via echography, which reduces the need for catheter labs, operating room facilities and large medical teams. The standardization of PAN technology can help patients in less developed countries and regions to receive prompt medical treatment, promoting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (U.N. SDG) for SDG3: "Good Health and Well-Being", and SDG 10: "Reduce inequality within and among countries".

Abstract

New IEEE Standard - Active - Draft. This standard establishes terminologies and a framework for Percutaneous and Nonfluoroscopic Technology (PAN technology) which is conducted by ultrasound in a percutaneous cardiovascular interventional therapy. This standard can promote the communication and cooperation with various stakeholders under a unified terminology and framework; as well as overcome differences to make technology more reliable, efficient and safer. The standardization of PAN technology will help scale up solution, satisfy people’s needs and promote healthcare services sustainable developments.
