About This Item

Full Description

Codes and standards published by NFPA are displayed as read-only under license from NFPA solely for use within this system. NFPA material may not be downloaded, printed, reproduced, or transferred.

NFPA 255 is referenced by the NFPA 101®: Life Safety Code® and building codes as the test procedure to be used for establishing the values associated with a material's flame spread and smoke density indexes, when used as interior wall and ceiling finishes.

This test procedure is used to determine the comparative burning characteristics of the material under test by evaluating the flame spread over its surface to two known items. The smoke density is also recorded during this test procedure.

Organizational and editorial changes make NFPA 255 easier to apply. This edition is also in compliance with NFPA's Manual of Style. (Approx. 18 pp., 2006)
