A self-contained bearing assembly is one from which all heat is lost by convection and radiation from the external surfaces only and no heat is removed by lubricant or coolant flows. ESDU 78026 outlines the methods of ESDU 78027 to 78029 and gives a flowchart to guide the user through those documents to obtain a solution.
