Description / Abstract:

This standard prescribes shapes and sizes of OCR-A alphanumeric characters and symbols for optical character recognition (OCR) systems.

Purpose. The purpose of this standard is to establish both a machine-readable and human-readable standard character set, designed for optimizing OCR readability. In order to accommodate a wide variety of OCR applications, the character repertoire includes letters, small letters, and special symbols, in three different sizes.
