Description / Abstract:

This standards pecifiest he general,p hysical, and magnetic requirements for interchangeability of the singledisk cartridge (front loading) as required to achieve unrecordedc artridge interchangeb etween disk storage drives and associatedin formation processings ystems. The single-diskc artridge (front loading), with two recording surfaces,i s of the type intended specifically for use with digital recording and reproducing equipments employing accessm echanismsc apableo f positioning to 200 usable data tracks on each surface. The requirements for three additional track areas on each recording surface are identified for use as alternates in case of difficulty in reading or recording on any usable data tracks.

The general, physical, and magnetic requirements for the single-diskc artridge specified in this standard include:

(1) Operating,s torage,a nd test environmentsf or the cartridge

(2) Physicald imensionso f the cartridge and its components

(3) Materialsa nd testing specificationsw here necessary

(4) Magnetic recording and reproducing geometry, including track locations

(5) Magnetic surface and track quality test specifications and requirements

(6) Supporting diagrams,m easurementm ethods, and an appendix to provide clarity and completeness of the standard
