Description / Abstract:


The purpose of this code is to provide a standard or uniform method for establishing a corrosion fatigue value* of sucker rod materials, which, when determined by the methods described herein, shall be called the API Corrosion-Fatigue Value, as defined hereinafter.

Corrosion fatigue values, as determined under this code, involve the use of (a) a specimen of specific design, (b) a fatigue machine which can be positively controlled to the required speed of rotation and properly equipped for complete immersion of specimens in a brine of specified content which is totally excluded from the air, (c) a test procedure, and (d) a method of reporting tests.

This code applies only to sucker rod materials.

*Notes: It should be understood that corrosion fatigue values as determined by this code do not necessarily have direct relationship to actual stresses that may be imposed safely upon sucker rods in service, although experience has shown that steels in use will perform in essentially the same order as evaluated by the tests given herein.
