Description / Abstract:

1. Scope

1.1 This test method covers techniques for measuring the initial particle size efficiency of flatsheet filter media using monodispersed aerosols. It utilizes light scattering particle counting in the size range of 0.5 to 5.0 µm and airflow test velocities of 1 to 25 cm/s.

1.2 The test particles are monodispersed latex spheres aerosolized into a stable dispersoid.

1.3 The test method is applicable for filter media with efficiencies less than 99.9 % or penetrations greater than 0.001 at 1.0-µm sphere diameter.

1.4 The test procedure measures filtration efficiency by comparing the particle count in the feed stream (upstream) to that in the filtrate (downstream).

1.5 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard.

1.6 This standard may involve hazardous materials, operations, and equipment. This standard does not purport to address all of the safety problems associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
