Description / Abstract:

This Recommended Practice sets forth the shipping documentation requirements for the transportation of dangerous goods.

(a) of Classes 1 to 9;

(b) transported by rail, road, or marine transport within Canada or for the Canadian portion of a iransborder or International shipment;

(c) In all means of containment; and

(d) for all types of consignments.

Notes:

(1) For transborder shipments refer to US CFR Title 49, Section 171.12a.

(2) For International shipments refer to the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations, Sections 2.14, 2.18. and 2.24.

This Recommended Practice does not

(a) apply to waste dangerous goods;

(b) include shipping documentation requirements over and above those of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and Regulations that are Imposed by any other regulatory authority;

(c) address documentation requirements for transport by air that are specified by ICAO using the IATA (International Air Transport Association) form and referenced by the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations; and

(d) address documentation requirements for the transportation of dangerous goods by marine whore specified by the Dangerous Goods Shipping Regulations or by the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code.

This Recommended Practice provides

(a) a detailed description of the information required to be shown on the shipping document;

(b) example formats of Dangerous Goods Shipping Documents for particular types of consignments; and

(c) requirements for the location of the document during transport.

This Recommended Practice makes reference to those sections of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and Regulations which relate to shipping documentation.

Note:

(1) This Recommended Practice includes supplemental requirements to the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Ragutations for the purpose of achieving uniform accepted practices for compliance with the Regulations.

(2) This Recommended Practice is curronl with tho Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations up to and including December 1990
