Description / Abstract:

This Standard applies to dry type, air-cooled transformers, autotransformers (fixed and variable), and primary-circuit reactors intended for use in, on, or associated with other approved equipment in capacities of 1000 kV•A and less and for primary voltages of 750 V or less, 60 Hz and less, and intended for use in nonhazardous locations in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.

This Standard applies to transformers suitable for

(a) miscellaneous and general purpose usage; and

(b) use with Class 2 remote-control, low-energy power and signal circuits not exceeding 30 V rms, including bell or buzzer circuits, and rated 100 V•A or less.

This Standard applies to ferroresonant transformers.

This Standard does not apply to transformers intended for the following purposes: testing electrical insulation, electric welding, toys, oil burner ignition, luminous tubes, fluorescent lighting, high-intensity-discharge lighting, instrument transformers, and power and lighting circuit applications.

This Standard does not apply to direct plug-in or cord-connected Class 2 transformers (see CSA Standard C22.2 No. 223).
