Description / Abstract:

This Standard specifies the requirements for air conduction pure tone audiometers used in determining the hearing threshold level of an individual in comparison with the standard reference threshold levels. These audiometers may be manual, automatic recording, or computer controlled. This Standard does not include requirements for sweep-frequency audiometers and excludes earphones of the circumaural type.

This Standard also specifies the acoustical environment in which testing should be performed.

The Appendices contain recommendations regarding audiometric personnel requirements, maintenance and calibration of audiometric equipment, and the recording of hearing test results.
