About This Item

Full Description

1 Scope

O452.0-1.1

This Standard pertains to OSB panels intended for use in engineered design applications and covers three types of Design Rated OSB panels: Type 1 (STANDARD), Type 2 (PLUS), and Type 3 (PROPRIETARY).

1.2

This Standard includes requirement for binders used in OSB manufacture.

1.3

This Standard specifies the method for evaluating short term basic structural capacities of OSB Products as produced by a specific mill.

1.4

This Standard specifies requirements for sampling, testing, and data analysis for initial qualification, for establishing Control Values, and for independent third party certification.

1.5

This Standard establishes a classification system for the basic structural capacities of Types 1 and 2 Design Rated OSB consisting of three rating grades for each of seven nominal thicknesses, and gives rules for assigning design ratings to qualified Products based on qualification tests.

1.6

This Standard provides for the assignment of engineering design values (specified design capacities) to Type 3 Design Ra ted OSB Products.

1.7

This Standard prescribes panel markings for identification of STANDARD, PLUS, and PROPRIETARY Products.

1.8

This Standard does not establish specified design capacities or allowable unit stresses for Design Rated OSB. Note: For specified design capacities or allowable unit stresses for Design Rated OSB, see CSA Standard O86.1 or manufacturers' literature.

1.9

This Standard does not specify the constituent materials or processes used in the manufacture of the Product, or the finish quality of panels. Neither does it cover all requirements of OSB panels in every design application. Note: Appendix A identifies additional properties that may be required for specific applications.

1.10

The values given in SI (metric) units are the standard. The values in parentheses are for information only.

O452.1-1.1

This Standard provides procedures for determining large specimen mechanical properties of OSB by reference to appropriate ASTM test Standards.

1.2

This Standard provides test procedures for bond durability determinations specific to products complying with CSA Standard O452 Series.

1.3

The units, number of specimens per sample panel, the size of specimens, and the test method are summarized for each property.

1.4

Test procedures for evaluating the basic panel properties of Design Rated OSB are provided by reference to CSA Standard O437.1.

1.5

Test procedures for resin binder evaluation are provided by reference to CSA Standard O437.2.

O452.2- 1.1

This Standard provides the manufacturers of Design Rated OSB and Certification Organizations (C.O.) with a minimum framework within which their separate responsibilities can be exercised. It sets out minimum quality assurance requirements for OSB panels manufactured in accordance with the requirements of CSA Standard O452.0.

1.2

This Standard requires that (a) the manufacturer establish a quality manual that includes the mill specifications for each Qualified Product, and procedures for the early detection and correction of changes in the process and panel properties that may adversely affect panel performance; and (b) the mill follows such procedures.

1.3

This Standard establishes the responsibilities of the C.O. employed by the manufacturer in respect of qualification of Design Rated OSB Products and continuing quality assurance activities.

1.4

This Standard sets out a minimum frequency for the C.O. inspection and sampling and minimum requirements for C.O. testing.

1.5

This Standard does not limit the addition of other quality control, process control, inspection, testing, or quality assurance measures which might be agreed upon between the manufacturer and the C.O.

1.6

Nothing contained in this Standard is intended to transfer any responsibility for the quality of Design Rated or Propri etary OSB Products or the making of such products from the manufacturer to any other organization.
