Description / Abstract:

This standard specifies minimum requirements for type C lubricating oils1).

The use of type C lubricating oils is recommended in particular for circulation and splash lubrication.

Type C lubricating oils can also be used as hydraulic oils and general purpose lubricating oils or engine oils.

Where the requirements for the resistance to ageing and/or corrosion protection are higher, type CL lubricating oils in accordance with DIN 51517-2 are to be used. In cases where the requirements for the antiwear protection in the mixed friction zone are higher, type CLP lubricating oils in accordance with DIN 51517-3 are preferred. When using type C lubricating oils for machine tools, DIN 8659-2 also needs to be taken into account.
