DOD POLICY ON LEAVE AND LIBERTY

REISSUANCE AND PURPOSE
This Directive reissues reference (a) to establish policies for leave, liberty (pass), and administrative absences that shall:
Be consistent with the uniformity required of the Armed Forces by reference (b).
Provide respite from the work environment in ways that shall contribute to improved performance and increased motivation.
Ensure maximum use of earned leave, minimize the loss of leave, and reduce to the maximum extent the costs of payments for unused accrued leave.
This Directive applies to the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Military Departments, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Defense, the Defense Agencies, the DoD Field Activities, and all other organizational entities in the Department of Defense (hereafter referred to collectively as the "DoD Components"). As used herein, the term "Armed Forces" refers to the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, and the Marine Corp.
