Description / Abstract:

This sectional specification is applicable to discrete contact components of use in direct current and analog applications for frequencies below 3 MHz and in digital applications requiring higher data rate frequencies. This sectional specification shall be used in conjunction with the following two specifications:

EIA-7000000 Generic Specification for Electronic & Electrical Connectors of Certified Quality (for Frequencies Essentially Below 3 MHz )

EIA-364 Electrical Connector Test Procedures Including Environmental Classifications

This specification includes, but is not necessarily limited to, the following types of contacts:

a) used as discrete standalone contact in printed circuit boards or as removable/replaceable contacts in connectors to be terminated to printed circuit boards.

b) used as removable/replaceable contacts in circular connectors.

c) used as removable/replaceable contacts in rectangular connectors.

The sectional specification shall be used in conjunction with detail specifications covering specific contacts or families of contacts. The detail specifications shall not degrade the requirements of the sectional or generic specifications.

Objective

The objective of this specification is to:

a) Define a uniform numbering system to be used for all contacts standardized by the EIA.

b) Define a uniform quality assessment system.

c) Define a uniform qualification test sequences.

d) Provide consistency for connectors by specifying terminology, symbols, test methods, and other necessary information.
