Description / Abstract:

The diagnosis and management of endocrine disorders can be challenging. Clinical signs may be nonspecific and test results can be influenced by factors unrelated to the primary disease process. Treatment can also be demanding, as therapy must be individualized to account for differences in disease severity, etiology, and response to medication.

This book is an attempt to provide an organized and concise overview of endocrinology for practicing veterinarians. It was our goal to emphasize points that are clinically relevant and thereby provide practical guidelines for diagnosing and treating endocrine disorders. We made every effort to point out potential pitfalls in diagnosis and therapy where appropriate. Because of the considerable variation among animals with the same disease, this text is meant to act as a guide to diagnostic and therapeutic options rather than a cookbook where the approach to each disorder is strictly adhered to.

We hope this text will be helpful to you and that you will have it close by for frequent use. Although patients with endocrine disease can be very complex and frustrating, it can be a gratifying experience to finally piece the puzzle together and get the patient on the road to recovery.
