This specification establishes the color requirements for the exterior surfaces of heavier-than-air and lighter-than-air Naval and Marine Corps aircraft, with the following exceptions:
(a) The provisions of this specification are not applicable to the color requirements for insignia and markings. The color requirements for these items are contained in Specifications MIL-I-18464 and MIL-M-25047.
(b) The provisions of this specification are not applicable to guided missiles which are not launched from aircraft. The exterior color to be applied to these shall be as specified in the individual contract. (For the color of aircraft-launched guided missiles, see Table II)
(c) The provisions of this specification are not applicable to military aircraft used for research projects. The color of such aircraft is subject to Naval Air Systems Command approval in each case.
