This specification covers a family of telephone switchboards which shall provide semi- and fully-automatic switching of local and distant calls on 2-wire and 2- and 6-wire lines and 2-, 4-, and 6-wire trunks utilizing space division switching matrices. Facilities shall be provided for interfacing with automatic central offices over 4-wire tone signaling trunks, 2-wire direct current (DC) closure trunks, and 6-wire recEive and transMit (E&M) trunks. The switchboard shall be configured so that it is convertible by means of modules plugged into a universally equipped housing to handle a variety of 2-, 4-, and 6-wire lines and trunks. The universally equipped housing shall be designated as switchboard housing SB-3614/TT. Modularly pluggable printed circuit boards (PCB) shall be as follows:
(a) 20-hertz (Hz) Ringdown Line/Trunk and Common Battery Supervision (CBS) Line (Type I PCB)
(b) Common Battery (CB) Dial Pulse, Dual-Tone Multi-frequency (DTMF) Line (Type II PCB).
(c) 4-wire Tone-Signaling Trunk (Type III PCB).
(d) 6-wire E&M Signaling Line/Trunk (Type IV PCB)
