Description / Abstract:

The materials covered by this specification are intended for use in aircraft and ground vehicles fuel tanks using gasoline or kerosene type fuels at temperatures from -55 ±5°F to 160 ±5°F for explosion and fire suppression. There are two classes of foam: Class 1 can be used from +10° to +160°F; Class 2 can be used from -25° to +160°F. Temperatures greater than 160°F and high humidity conditions will shorten the service life. These materials are intended to replace all the currently used foams qualified under MIL-DTL-83054. The advantages of these conductive materials include potentially longer service life and reduced incidents of electrostatic charge generation, discharge, and vapor ignitions that were experienced with the previous polyester/polyether materials.
