Description / Abstract:

These requirements cover cord-connected electric heaters rated 12 amperes or less for use under the mattresses of household-type water beds in accordance with the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70, on either direct or alternating current 120-volt supply circuits.

Heaters using external user adjustable temperature control units, integral or detachable, are covered by these requirements.

These requirements do not cover heaters intended for immersion in water during use.

A product that contains features, characteristics, components, or systems new or different from those in use when the standard was developed, and that involves a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons shall be evaluated using the appropriate additional component and end-product requirements as determined necessary to maintain the level of safety for the user of the product as originally anticipated by the intent of this standard.
