Description / Abstract:

These requirements apply to the following types of liquid fuel-burning appliances intended for installation in manufactured homes and recreational vehicles, including travel trailers, camping trailers, truck campers, motor homes, and park trailers.

a) Direct vent system type heating appliances that provide for complete separation between the indoor atmosphere and combustion system, including the air supplied for combustion by inherent design of the furnace and its venting system.

b) Vented heating appliances other than of the direct vent system type that provide for separation between the indoor atmosphere and combustion system, including the air supplied for combustion by an installation method. Such appliances can be used only in manufactured homes, not in recreational vehicles.

Requirements for the installation and use of these appliances are included in the following standards:

a) For Manufactured Homes – The Department of Housing and Urban Development Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standards, Title 24 CFR, Part 3280, 1994.

b) For Recreational Vehicles – The National Fire Protection Association Standard for Fire Safety Criteria for Recreational Vehicles, NFPA 501C-1993.

An appliance constructed to burn liquid fuel or gas and a liquid fuel burning appliance constructed and designed so that it may be converted to burn gas by installation of a specific gas burner shall also comply with the applicable requirements in the Standard for Gas-Burning Heating Appliances for Manufactured Homes and Recreational Vehicles, UL 307B.

The term ²appliance² as used in this standard refers to any heating appliance covered by this standard, such as a warm air central furnace, a wall furnace, a heating boiler, and a water heater.

A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those covered by the requirements in this standard, and that involves a risk of fire or of electric shock or injury to persons shall be evaluated using appropriate additional component and end-product requirements to maintain the level of safety as originally anticipated by the intent of this standard. A product whose features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems conflict with specific requirements or provisions of this standard does not comply with this standard. Revision of requirements shall be proposed and adopted in conformance with the methods employed for development, revision, and implementation of this standard.
