Japanese Standards Association (JSA)

The Japanese Standards Association, an organization formed through the merger of the Dai Nihon Aerial Technology Association and the Japan Management Association, was authorized to incorporate by the Minister of Trade and Industry on December 6, 1945.

The objective of the association is "to educate the public regarding the standardization and unification of industrial standards, and thereby to contribute to the improvement of technology and the enhancement of production efficiency".

JSA conducts surveys and research into standardization in basic and common fields such as units, and graphical symbols; networking and software applications in the IT field; management systems; and consumer protection; in addition to maintaining various high quality fonts such as the Heisei Mincho typeface.

JSA also actively participates in deliberations taking place in ISO/TC 37 Terminology (principles and coordination), ISO/TC 46 Information and documentation, ISO/TC 69 Applications of statistical methods, ISO/TC 176 Quality management and quality assurance, ISO/TC 207 Environmental management, IEC/TC 1 Terminology, IEC/TC 3 Documentation and graphical symbols, IEC/TC 56 Dependability, among others, to develop international standards.
